With over 40 years experience, the only true small business owner in the race for District 26.
Robb Archie, a 57-year-old Reno resident, has been a local businessman for over 27 years and is no stranger to running an effective, well-oiled fiscally-responsible company. “I had a payroll to make each and every week. The families of my employees, as well as my own, depended on me to make that happen. There are no excuses. You work with what you have and you get the job done!”
Robb Archie understands the value of a hard-earned dollar. Robb and his wife Carrie moved to Reno in 1981 with less than $500 in their pocket. They knew no one in Reno, but trusted in each other to make a place in the community. Carrie has worked at Renown Medical Center for 27 years as an RN and is presently in the NICU, while Robb started and ran a successful asphalt construction business. The Archie family has had a longtime relationship in asphalt construction spanning way back to the 1930’s with his grandfather and his late dad, Earl Archie Sr. “When my dad died in 2002, it took the wind out of my sails, as he was an intricate part of the company and my life in every way. I decided two years later to sell the company; it was a very difficult and emotional moment the day I gave the keys to the new owner. I loved the business, my employees, and my customers, but I loved my family more.”
Robb Archie believes in the importance of an efficient government. He is currently semi-retired but still maintains ownership in asphalt sealcoat material plants, and shares his experience and knowledge with up-and-coming customers on how to run a successful business. “I believe you run a business the same way you would run a government. It’s essential to have people in government who are prepared with the necessary experience to help solve the critical problems facing our state today. With fuel and food costs rising each and every day, people are struggling. More than ever, we need people in the legislature who have strong leadership qualities with the courage and discipline to honestly represent the people who sent them there. People in my district are tired of paying increasingly higher taxes. If we as families have to tighten our belts when times get tough, then so too should our government! After all, we are the government.”
Robb Archie is against new taxes. He is a firm believer in the Property Tax Initiative proposed by Sharron Angle that Ty Cobb has not supported in the past. “I have always supported fair, reasonable and predictable property taxes,” said Robb. “Unfortunately, the current law is another way for government to control homeowners. If we leave the current system as it is, people who bought their homes years ago will be forced out by taxes they never anticipated, especially the elderly. That’s not what America stands for, and if I can help it, neither will Nevada.” Robb Archie is for quality education, small business, stable and predictable property taxes, care and protection for our elderly, and supporting local police and fire departments. “I don’t believe we have give up our homes to support these programs!” said Robb.
Meet Robb Archie's Family. Robb and Carrie have three children and one grandchild. “My daughter Nicole is the apple of my eye. She has given Carrie and I all of the love and respect parents could ever ask for.” Nicole graduated from Galena High school in 1997 as Salutatorian, UNR in 2000 with a BA in Journalism with distinction and recently graduated from Pepperdine University with an MBA in Marketing. She currently lives in southern California with her husband, Sean, who also graduated from UNR with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Astronautics from USC.
Their middle son Anthony graduated from Galena High School in 2003 and entered the U.S. Marine Corps. “He is our super hero, with courage, wit, intelligence, yet always the independent child.” In his senior year Anthony came to his Dad one evening and said, “Dad, I’m joining the Marines!” When Robb asked him why Anthony calmly said, “I want to fight for my country, and I just want you and mom to be proud of me.”
“At that moment, I could not have been more proud,” said Robb. “In 2004, our whole family flew to North Carolina during the last days of summer to see my son off to war. We hugged him and refused to let him go, but duty called.”
Anthony joined his unit, Charlie Company, in the Battle for Fallujah. His unit was one of the first into the city where fierce fighting took place. The Archie’s did not hear from their son for almost six weeks. “Every time the news came on in the evening, Carrie would grab my arm tightly when the news spoke of another lost American soldier. Prayers were all we had, but it was more than enough.” Anthony did two tours in the Marines. He also came to the aid of Americans in the New Orleans Hurricane Disaster and helped evacuate American citizens from Lebanon during the Israeli-Lebanese war. He’s finally home and attending college.
Their youngest son Joseph attends Manogue High School and will graduate this year. He also plans to go to college and earn a degree in Business. Robb and his family live in Southwest Reno.
Why is Robb Archie running for State Assembly - District 26? When asked why he decided to run for the State Assembly Robb Archie proudly stated, “I understand the process of government and I believe we can do better for our families and neighbors in District 26. I view this as an opportunity to give back to this community that I love!”
